A Needleart Judge's Reference by NAN - A Review

June 22, 2022--I've never written a book review before, but this book, or rather booklet, proved worthy of discussion.      As a helper/teller at the Rehoboth Beach Museum's Annual Needleworkers Exhibit, I found this book chock full of helpful information.

Firstly, it is published by the National Acadamy of Needlearts (NAN) and is available here on their website.  As you can see from the chapters shown on the information page, copied below, there is so much to assist judges and exhibit planners in putting together a successful exhibition.  I especially liked the last section entitled Other Skills and Considerations.  I hope you'll agree with me that it's a valuable resource for those involved with needlework exhibitions.

Rehoboth Beach Museum's 10th Annual Needlework Exhibit

June 16, 2022--Save the dates--Rehoboth Beach, Delaware Museum's 10th Annual Needlework Exhibition will take place October 1 through November 6, 2022.  Flyer is below.

Plan on making three trips to the beach:

  1. Drop off your needlework piece(s) (September 15th through September 24th)

We are excited to finally be able to do this again after two years of not having the exhibit (canceled in 2020 because of COVID and in 2021 because of a roof leak).   Not only will the exhibition be judged, but each piece gets a critique--an excellent opportunity to learn about your stitching.

The link to find the application form on the museum's website can be found at:

Rehoboth Beach Museum

Looking forward to seeing everyone's work.

PS:  This is a revision of earlier flyers submitted that had incorrect dates.

Cancellation of 10th Annual Rehoboth Beach Museum Needlework Exhibit - 9/9/21

September 9, 2021--I just got word that the Rehoboth Beach Museum is canceling the needlework exhibition for this year.  Ouch!  Here's what the Director of the museum writes:

---------- Forwarded message ---------

We’ve had some roof leaks at the museum, and out of an abundance of caution, we are cancelling the Needlework exhibit. None of the works already dropped off are damaged and the exhibit area has not had any leaks, but we want to make sure nothing happens to your beautiful work.

I am so sorry.

If you already dropped off work, you will have to come back and pick it up. It is stored safely – please be patient with us when you come to pick up your work.  Of course, your fees will be refunded. We’ve not cashed any checks.

July 15, 2021--The 10th Annual Needlework Exhibition at the Rehoboth Beach, DE Museum is  scheduled from September 18, 2021 through November 7, 2021.  The information summary and application form can be found at the museum's website by clicking here.

Come to the beach in the early Fall and see the exhibition.  Better yet, come around Labor Day to add your entry, then again later to view all the pieces.   Entrants come from all over, not just Delaware, and it's so much fun to see the projects that stitchers have worked on.  Hope to see your piece there.

Rehoboth Beach Needlework Exhibit for 2020 Cancelled - 4/30/2020

April 30, 2020--I have just received word from the Director of the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society and Museum that this year's needlework exhibit is cancelled.  Here's her very sound explanation:

So many parts of our lives have changed during these past several weeks. Both our personal and professional activities have become limited or just about eliminated.

When this is all finally over, and we are back once again to a Usual Routine, there will be a tremendous rush, crush, and demand for our time.

One deadline that we can erase from your schedule is the  2020 Rehoboth Beach Museum Embroidery Show. We are cancelling it. This will give us all one less thing on the no doubt long To-do List by then, and more time to adjust back to regular life,
we hope.

This will also give us all more time to finish that wonderful piece now in production, to be ready  for the show in 2021. If you haven’t had a chance to start on your planned work, now you can. We’ll look forward to seeing you and your spectacular piece (s)
in 2021.

Rehoboth Beach, DE 9th Annual Needlework Exhibit - New Closing Date - Updated 7/23/19

July 23, 2019--I have just been informed that the Rehoboth Beach 9th Annual Needlework Exhibit will run from September 14, 2019 through November 3, 2019 (not October 27, 2019 as originally posted).   Except for this change, everything else in the below entry form remains the same.

The change is made so as not to conflict with Rehoboth Beach's Sea Witch Festival which brings in lots of traffic and festivities.  Hope this date works best for you as well.

June 24, 2019--Below is information and entry form for the 9th Annual Rehoboth Beach Museum Needlework Exhibition.   Come to the beach in the early Fall and see the exhibit.  Better yet, come around Labor Day to add your entry, then again later to view all the pieces.

PS:  It's recommended you call before coming by to be sure the museum is open:  302-227-7310.
