Downton Abbey Framed - Updated 9/15/2018

September 15, 2018--Just learned this piece won a 3rd place ribbon in the 8th Annual Rehoboth Beach Museum Needlework Exhibit in the Canvas/Needlepoint category.  Cool.

November 8, 2016--At last, here's the Downton Abbey threesome framed along with the cards made specifically for each design.   You can read about each of the the three pieces by clicking on the names of Countess of Grantham,  Lady Edith and Lady Mary.  I think the frame is perfect.

ANG's 40th Anniversary Sampler Synchronicity Updated 3/20/14

March 20, 2014--Won 2nd Place Ribbon in the sampler category at the Rehoboth Beach Museum 4th Annual Needlework Exhibit.

August 13, 2013--The sampler is now framed.  It's big--33" long by 17.25" wide.  Love it.

August 1, 2013--The sampler is finished and off to be framed!  This was so much fun to complete and fellow chapter members who also worked on this project shared many helpful hints.  Will post a new picture of the sampler when it's back from the framer.

In prior posts (written below), I wrote about not wanting to do Band 7, called the Contemporary Drawn Thread Band, as instructed by Catherine Jordan, feeling that it was a little too "helter skelter" for my tastes.   Not knowing how to handle the three blocks in this band, I purchased a book titled BEGINNER'S GUIDE TO DRAWN THREAD EMBROIDERY by Patricia Bage, Search Press Ltd., 2011.    Perfect.  Her instructions and photographs are so clear and sample projects so beautiful, I now want to do more of this type of work.  Below are pictures of the band as I stitched it and another as designed by Catherine Jordan.

PS  When cutting out the horizontal threads, I held my breath to keep from shaking the scissors and clipping the wrong thread.  Success.

Band 7 Completed

July 9, 2013--Added beads to Bands 1, 8 and 11.  Still thinking about what to do with Band 7.  Stay tuned.

Band 11 With Beads

July 3, 2013--Band 18 is now complete.  Almost done with this sampler---Band 7 needs my attention. The original design by Catherine Jordan is called Contemporary Drawn Thread, calling for threads to be cut and wrapped together in what I consider to be a helter-skelter manner.    Will be doing further research on what do to with this.

Band 18--Liberty ANG designed by Ro Pace

June 24, 2013--Band 17, designed by Mary K. Campbell, is done.  I used beads from my stash rather than what was suggested.   One more band to stitch on the bottom then I must concentrate on what I'll do with Band 7.

Band 17--Beaded Pins designed by Mary K. Campbell

June 19, 2013--Another band completed, this one designed by Pat Mazu.  Really like this project.  Each band is so different from the other that it's like starting a new project each time--boredom never sets in.

Band 16--Butterflies designed by Pat Mazu

June 17, 2013--So far I've completed 15 bands of ANG's 40th Anniversary Sampler Synchronicity.  In October, 2012, our local Seashore Chapter took this on  as a group project.   I chose colors in the burgundy, Williamsburg blue and tan families.  Plan on hanging it in my home office when done.  Below are pictures of the bands stitched to date.  Note:  I will not be stitching Band 7 as shown in the lessons, but instead will do some research on cut thread patterns and do something more traditional.  Some of the bands need beads which will be added last.  This has been lots of fun to do while being very educational at the same time.

Brenda's Needlepoint Studio Updated 3/20/14

March 20, 2014--Won 3rd Place Ribbon for Canvaswork at the Rehoboth Beach Museum 4th Annual Needlework Exhibit.

February, 2012--I named my blog after this piece.  The Delaware's Seashore Chapter took this on as a group project in March, 2011.  It's designed by Louise S. Meier.  We personalized our studios by changing the name, colors, etc.  For some this was a great stash buster, but for me, not having much in the way of stash, had to purchase many of the wools, silks and cotton floss required in the instructions.  This project taught us a lot about color schemes--monochromatic, complementary, analogous, split complementary and triadic.  They are all in this design.  It was fun to stitch this as a group and learning from each other.  One of the stitchers located "shisha" mirrors to use in the magnifying glass.  My mother's housemate, who makes up beaded jewelry, gave me just the right copper beads to use as drawer pulls.  I'm thinking of making the bag smaller, or, at a minimum, shorten the corded strap.  What do you think?

BTW, the lettering was very easy to do.  I was able to "write" it up and center it on graph paper, all on my PC, by using Stitchpoint.com's alphabet generator at the site below:

March, 2012--Removed the stone from the bag and had it framed.

Anasazi Trio

May, 2013--I put the three Anasazi projects together (Dream, Song and Spirit) and entered them as an exhibit to the Rehoboth Beach Museum's Annual Needlework Exhibit...and won a First Prize Ribbon.  What a thrill.

City Walk Updated 3/18/15

March 18, 2015--Won 3rd Place Ribbon in the Canvaswork-Multi category at Woodlawn's 52 Annual Needlework Exhibition in Alexandria, VA.

March 20, 2014--Won 2nd Place Ribbon for Canvaswork at the Rehoboth Beach Museum 4th Annual Needlework Exhibit.

August 13, 2013--Framed

October, 2012--This was an ANG CyberPointers Correspondence Course taught by Linda Reinmiller.  For me this was an extremely ambitious project, but once I received Linda's instruction manual, I was immediately put at ease.  I learned a lot of new stitches and techniques, all of which were detailed in her instructions.   This being a CC, I was able to mail my completed project to Linda for review.  I was very impressed with how she was able to catch the smallest thing that should have been done differently.  Another wonderful learning experience.  I so much enjoyed this project that I signed up to do her Garden Walk.

SOTM 2011

January, 2012--My second ANG Stitch of the Month mystery project taught by Ro Pace.  This one was a real challenge, consisting of Jean Hilton stitches.  They always seemed to be highly engineered stitches which take some concentration to follow, but so worth the effort.

March, 2012--Framed

May, 2012--Won Third Place Ribbon for Mixed Techniques and Peoples Choice Award at the Rehoboth Beach Museum's Annual Needlework Exhibit.  This second ribbon so surprised me that I asked the museum's director, Nancy Alexander, about this and she explained that most of the visitors to the exhibit were fellow needleworkers and could see the work involved.  Gotta love our fellow stitchers!

Stitches in Sterling

December, 2011--The Seashore Chapter brought in Nancy Cucci to teach this piece at a two-day class.   Learned a lot more about beading doing this project than on anything before.  Loved the technique she gave us for stitching our initials and date.  Will try to incorporate this in many more projects.

May, 2012--Won Third Place Ribbon for Mixed Techniques at the Rehoboth Beach Museum's Annual Needlework Exhibit.

Journey - David McCaskill

December, 2011--This was an online Cyberworkshop Class through ANG taught by David McCaskill.  Jumped at the opportunity to take this class and learned lots about composite stitches, correctly using a laying tool, etc.

May, 2012--Won Second Place Ribbon for Mixed Techniques at the Rehoboth Beach Museum's Annual Needlework Exhibit

Found ANG

Spring, 2009--I discovered the existence of the American Needlepoint Guild (ANG), and found my Zen.  At the time I was living in Alexandria, VA and immediately joined the Northern Virginia (NoVa) Chapter.  Loved these guys--the projects they were stitching, their excitement about stitching, etc.  However, I had one problem--needlepoint is not cross stitch and I vowed I would not start any needlepoint projects until I completed my blue heron, a cross stitch project begun in 2001.  I did it (picture below) and have never looked back.

May, 2011--This piece won Peoples Choice award at the 2011 Rehoboth Beach Museum's Annual Needlework Exhibit.
